About
10 years ago my youngest son had just reached the age when
he wanted to go out in the evenings with his friends. Like
countless other parents, I was worried for my child's safety.
And, like countless other parents, I tossed and turned in
bed at night and couldn't sleep until I heard him return home.
I realized
after a while that the only thing I had left in my power was
prayer, and so I began to pray to my son's guardian angel
for his protection. I never spoke of this to anyone. After
just about a week or so, my son said in passing, "I woke
up last night, Mum, and there was a man looking at me. But
it was OK. I knew he was my guardian angel. I just went back
to sleep!"
What makes
the incident even more incredible is that at the time my son
(like lots of young teenagers) was not at all interested in
anything religious and would almost certainly not have been
receptive to any talk about praying to guardian angels. When
he told me the next day about his visitor, he said it with
a completely relaxed and accepting tone. I can hear his voice
now - "I woke up, Mum, and there was a man looking at
me, but I knew it was my guardian angel and so I went back
to sleep."
That memory
has a deep effect on me whenever I think about it. It still
makes me feel as reassured now as it did all those years ago.
