My wife
and I own a very old bungalow in Tampa, Florida. It has been
a labor of love to keep it as original as possible. It has
been our weekend getaway for the last two years and we totally
enjoy it.
Some time
ago, we arrived at the house and found it to have a terrible
odor. We finally determined that the odor was caused by sewer
gas entering the house. We had the sewer pipes flushed and
inspected, but the odor continued. We were warned that the
situation was probably dangerous and the gas could cause physical
harm to us. We searched and searched for the problem over
a two-day period, but could not figure out what was causing
the gas to enter the house.
On a Sunday
morning at about 1:00 a.m., my wife said I woke her up laughing
to myself. She had never heard me laugh in my sleep before.
She told me that I said several times, "How stupid can
I be?" I had dreamed the solution to the problem.
In my
dream, I was flying into Tampa from the east and landing to
the west, which I actually did two days earlier. What is strange
is that I fly quite a bit and we never land to the west, always
to the east or south.
The next
thing I remember in the dream was that the wind was blowing
from the west and the sewer vent pipe was located on the west
side of the house below the eaves. I got out of bed at one
in the morning and readjusted the pipe. Instantly, the smell
was gone.
We were
having a very rare west wind which was blowing the sewer gas
back into the pipe and up through the drains. I would not
have figured it out in a million years, nor would a professional
plumber.
Even more
incredible, I related this story to my mother the next day
and she gave me a very funny look. She had also had a dream
that same night about a plumbing issue in her house, and the
messenger was my deceased father. She was led to the exact
cause of problem and it was resolved as well.
