My husband
died by suicide at our Arizona home on the tenth of March
1997. His body was cremated and the family returned to Michigan
for his memorial service.
The third
week of April, I was sitting in my summer apartment in Michigan
quietly reading a book with quite fine print. I was intent
on the text. The other apartments in the same building around
me were quiet.
As I was
reading, the printed letters left the open pages of the book.
Along the upper left corner appeared a patch of green grass
and I could see our lawn area as if I were looking through
the window of the attached front porch of my apartment.
As the
green lawn area grew larger, I could see a moving figure appear
wearing a black baseball cap with the initials AJ above the
brim. I gradually realized that this was my husband, striding
slowly across the lawn wearing a blue plaid western shirt
and light blue jeans. These were favorite articles of clothing
for him, including his (AJ) Apache Junction cap.
This "vision"
continued in color, as he walked toward his left, stepping
higher up as if onto the front steps to the porch. Through
the window, I could see my husband stand quietly looking to
his left, the full side of his face appearing as healthy and
rosy complexioned as ever he had been in his lifetime. As
he turned to face towards me, I could see he was also wearing
his large, fancy western belt buckle.
As quickly
as it had all appeared on the pages of the book before me,
it all disappeared. The printed lettering returned to the
book in my lap. I sat in shock; it had all happened in seconds.
Unable to explain this to myself, I realized that my prayers
had been answered. He had been sent so that I would know he
was OK.
